Tishman Construction served as Owner’s Representative for the base building and interiors construction of the Ronald Reagan Office Building and International Trade Center, which houses over 7,000 federal employees from three highly specialized federal agencies. Each agency occupying the new facility required individual security alarm systems and specific programming requirements that had to be carefully coordinated within the base building construction schedule.
Because of the building’s location adjacent to the Washington Metro subway, structural and logistical plans for construction were designed to avoid the subway structure and maintain uninterrupted service while connecting the new building to the existing Metro system. The project also abutted several landmark buildings adjacent to the site, which necessitated careful monitoring techniques and the installation of special shoring and foundation systems to protect these historic structures.
